Title: Sex Offense Treatment | Think Different Psychology, Greensboro NC. Evidence-based sex offense treatment, risk assessment, and court-connected care in Greensboro, NC. Structured support for individuals navigating charges, probation, supervised release, or pre-sentencing treatment.

Sex Offender Treament

Think Different Psychology provides structured, evidence-based treatment for individuals navigating court involvement, probation, or a need for documented behavioral accountability.

Every aspect of our program is grounded in recognized clinical standards including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) model so clients, attorneys, and probation officers alike can trust the process behind the progress.

We work with individuals charged with sexual offenses, those currently on probation or supervised release, and clients seeking treatment prior to sentencing. Whether you're managing a court requirement or working through an attorney referral, our goal stays the same: structured, accountable care that supports real behavioral change and successful reintegration into the community.

Think Different Psychology provides specialized treatment for adults navigating sex offense charges, probation, supervised release, attorney referrals, or other court-connected circumstances.

Our approach is structured, evidence-based, and focused on helping clients understand the factors connected to their behavior, reduce risk, and build healthier patterns for the future.

Treatment is individualized rather than one-size-fits-all. We begin with a thorough intake and assessment, then develop a plan based on the client’s history, assessed needs, level of risk, legal circumstances, and treatment goals.

Who This is For

We provide sex offense-specific assessment and treatment for adults, including:

  • Individuals charged with sexual offenses

  • Individuals currently on probation or supervised release

  • Clients seeking treatment before sentencing, often following an attorney’s recommendation

  • Clients referred by attorneys, probation officers, or the court

  • Individuals who need relapse prevention treatment or ongoing behavioral accountability support

We understand that reaching out for treatment in these circumstances can feel difficult. Clients do not need to have everything figured out before contacting us. The first step is an honest, confidential conversation about the situation and what may be needed next.

Services We Provide

Depending on the client’s needs and referral requirements, services may include:

  • Sex offense-specific treatment guided by recognized professional standards

  • Individual therapy tailored to the client’s history, risk factors, and treatment needs

  • Structured group therapy focused on accountability, insight, and behavioral change

  • Court-mandated or probation-related treatment

  • Pre-sentencing treatment engagement and factual progress documentation

  • Probation compliance support and coordination when clinically appropriate

  • Behavioral accountability monitoring

  • Risk assessment using standardized, validated tools

  • Relapse prevention planning and aftercare

Our Treatment Approach

Treatment is grounded in the Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) model, a research-based framework widely used in correctional and forensic treatment. The model helps us match the intensity of treatment to the client’s assessed risk, focus on factors associated with future offending, and deliver care in a way that fits the client’s learning style, abilities, and circumstances.

We combine the RNR framework with:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Structured relapse prevention

  • Psychoeducation

  • Ongoing risk and progress assessment

  • Practical skill-building.

Treatment may address

  • Unhelpful thought and behavior patterns

  • Denial or minimization

  • Emotional regulation

  • Decision-making

  • Relationship pattern

  • Coping skills

  • Healthy sexuality

  • Developing a realistic prevention plan.

Our approach is active, direct, and collaborative. Treatment is not simply a place to talk or complete a requirement. Clients are expected to participate honestly, accept appropriate accountability, practice skills, and apply what they learn outside of sessions.

How Treatment is Structured

Sex offense-specific treatment is a gradual, phased process rather than a short-term class. The exact length and intensity vary according to assessed risk, clinical needs, progress, and any applicable supervision or court requirements.

  • Intake and Assessment

    • Every client begins with a clinical intake and assessment. When appropriate, this may include a validated risk assessment or a more comprehensive psychosexual evaluation. The purpose is to understand the client’s circumstances and develop a treatment plan based on actual needs rather than assumptions.

  • Orientation Phase

    • Clients learn what to expect from treatment, review program requirements, establish initial goals, and begin addressing the circumstances that led to the referral.

  • Core or Active Phase

    • The primary phase of treatment focuses on identifying relevant thought and behavior patterns, developing accountability, strengthening emotional and behavioral regulation, improving decision-making and relationship skills, and building strategies for reducing future risk.

  • Maintenance and Aftercare

    • As progress is made, treatment may transition to a lower-intensity phase focused on relapse prevention, continued accountability, and maintaining changes in the community.

Is This the Right Fit For You?

Clients who tend to do best in treatment are adults who are willing to participate honestly, consider feedback, examine their thoughts and behaviors, and take responsibility for making meaningful changes. You do not need to agree with every recommendation immediately or know exactly how to move forward. What matters is a willingness to engage in the process.

Our style is structured, practical, and direct. We work especially well with clients who want clear expectations, honest feedback, education, and concrete strategies rather than a passive therapy experience.

What to Expect

Your first appointment will focus on understanding the reason for treatment, relevant legal or supervision circumstances, personal and behavioral history, current concerns, and treatment goals. We will also discuss what additional assessment, documentation, or coordination may be appropriate.

Treatment plans are developed early and adjusted as new information becomes available or progress is made. Clients can expect questions, feedback, psychoeducation, structured exercises, and skills to practice outside of sessions. The goal is meaningful improvement and increased independence, not simply attendance

Working With Attorneys, Probation, and the Court

When authorized by the client and clinically appropriate, we can coordinate with attorneys, probation officers, and other professionals involved in the case.

This communication may include confirming attendance, providing factual updates about participation and progress, discussing treatment recommendations, and coordinating requirements related to supervision or court involvement. Information is shared only with the client’s written authorization and within appropriate ethical and confidentiality guidelines.

Our documentation is clear, objective, and based on the client’s actual participation in treatment.

Depending on the circumstances, it may address attendance, engagement, progress toward treatment goals, compliance with program expectations, and clinically relevant recommendations for continued care. We do not advocate for a predetermined legal outcome or provide opinions outside the scope of our clinical role.

Participation in treatment does not guarantee a particular result in court, at sentencing, or during supervision. Every legal matter is different, and decisions ultimately remain with the attorneys, probation officials, and courts involved.

Clients should speak directly with their attorney about how treatment participation or clinical documentation may relate to their individual case.

Payment & Insurance

Think Different Psychology is a private-pay, out-of-network practice and does not bill insurance directly.

Clients are responsible for payment at the time of service.

We can provide a Superbill or detailed receipt that clients may submit to their insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We encourage clients to contact their insurance provider before beginning treatment to confirm out-of-network mental health benefits.
