Individual & Couples Counseling
Practical, evidence-based therapy for adults and couples who are ready to understand what isn't working, do something different, and find the healing they’re looking for.
Think Different Psychology provides a myriad of services, including individual and couples counseling for adults navigating anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and a wide range of personal and interpersonal concerns.
Our approach is active, collaborative, and focused on real change.
Led by Dr. Nicholas Rogers, a Licensed Psychologist in Greensboro, North Carolina, our Think Different Psychology practice combines clinical expertise with a direct, practical style designed to help clients move forward.
Individual Counseling
We provide individual counseling for adults facing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and life challenges, including anxiety, depression, anger management, stress, emotional regulation, relationship difficulties, communication problems, self-esteem, grief, trauma-related concerns, and difficulty managing thoughts or behaviors.
We also work with individuals struggling with impulsivity, poor decision-making, interpersonal conflict, or behavioral patterns they want to change, as well as those adjusting to significant life circumstances. For individuals involved with the legal system, counseling can also address the underlying emotional and behavioral concerns that may be contributing to ongoing difficulties.
Our approach is practical and collaborative. We help clients understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing healthier ways to respond to challenges. We work with adults who are ready to make meaningful changes, whether they are addressing a specific concern or simply recognize that their current way of coping is no longer working.
Common areas we treat:
Anxiety and depression
Stress and emotional regulation
Anger management
Self-esteem and identity concerns
Grief and life transitions
Trauma related concerns
Relationship and communication difficulties
Behavioral patterns and decision-making
Couples Counseling
Our couples counseling helps partners build healthier, more connected, and more sustainable relationships using the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach developed through decades of research on what makes relationships work.
We help couples understand the patterns that contribute to conflict and develop practical skills for improving communication, emotional connection, trust, and friendship. Couples often come to us for frequent arguments, communication difficulties, emotional disconnection, loss of trust, recurring conflict, intimacy concerns, infidelity, or major life transitions.
We also work with couples who feel stuck in negative patterns and want to strengthen their relationship before problems become more serious.
For couples affected by problematic sexual behaviors, pornography use, or other sexual concerns, counseling addresses both the individual behavior and its impact on trust, communication, intimacy, and the relationship as a whole. Treatment is tailored to each couple and focused on creating meaningful, lasting change rather than simply resolving the immediate conflict.
Whether a couple is facing significant difficulty or wants to strengthen an already healthy relationship, our goal is the same: help both partners build the communication and connection skills needed for a stronger partnership.
Couples counseling can help with:
Communication breakdown
Conflict patterns and recurring arguments
Trust and infidelity
Emotional disconnection
Intimacy concerns
Life transitions as a couple
Problematic sexual behaviors affecting the relationship
Our Approach
At Think Different Psychology, we use an integrative, evidence-based approach that is tailored to the individual rather than a single therapeutic model. Our primary methods include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, interpersonal therapy, and solution-focused therapy. For couples, our primary framework is the Gottman Method, with CBT, DBT, and interpersonal approaches incorporated when appropriate.
Therapy here is active rather than passive. We believe that when someone seeks therapy, there is usually a specific problem they want to understand and change. Our role is to help identify what's contributing to that problem, provide practical guidance, teach relevant skills, and work collaboratively toward real solutions.
Psychoeducation is a core part of treatment. We help clients understand how thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and past experiences influence current difficulties, then use that understanding to build practical strategies for change. Sessions often include structured exercises, skill-building, and homework between visits so that progress continues outside the therapy room.
Our goal isn't simply to help clients feel better during a session. It's to help them understand their difficulties, build the skills and insight to address them, and make changes that carry into everyday life.
Is This the Right Fit for You?
Clients who tend to do best with us are adults who are open to feedback, willing to examine their own thoughts and behaviors, and genuinely interested in making meaningful change. You don't need to have everything figured out.
Many clients come to us because they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. What matters most is a willingness to actively participate in the process.
Because our approach is direct, practical, and educational, we work especially well with people looking for more than a space to talk, people looking for direction, honest feedback, and a better understanding of why they think, feel, or behave the way they do.
For couples, the same principle applies. You don't have to agree on everything, or even be equally confident that therapy will work, when you begin. What matters is a willingness to look at how each partner contributes to the patterns in the relationship and a commitment to working on it together.
What to Expect
You don't need to have everything figured out before your first session. You simply need to be willing to open up and speak honestly about what's bringing you to therapy and what you'd like to change.
Our approach is collaborative from the start. We work to understand your concerns, identify the factors contributing to the problem, and begin developing a treatment plan early in the process, often within the first session, rather than spending several sessions gathering background information.
Therapy with us is not a passive experience. Expect questions, feedback, psychoeducation, and practical strategies introduced early and often. At the same time, effective therapy takes time and collaboration. The first session is only the beginning of the process.
Our goal is for you to leave that first appointment with a clearer understanding of what you're working on, why it may be happening, and where treatment is headed next.
Session Details
During the active phase of treatment, sessions are typically scheduled weekly or every other week. As progress is made, treatment often transitions to a maintenance phase, with sessions scheduled monthly for a period before determining whether ongoing therapy is needed.
Our goal is meaningful improvement and increased independence, not open-ended therapy.
Individual Counseling
is offered both in person and through secure telehealth, giving clients flexibility to meet from home or in our Greensboro office. Sessions are scheduled in 60-minute blocks, with approximately 50 minutes of face-to-face therapy.
Couples Counseling
is offered in person. We've found that in-person sessions allow for more direct interaction and communication practice between partners. Couples sessions are available in 60-minute or 90-minute formats.
Payment & Insurance
Think Different Psychology is a private-pay, out-of-network practice and does not bill insurance directly.
Clients are responsible for payment at the time of service.
We can provide a Superbill or detailed receipt that clients may submit to their insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We encourage clients to contact their insurance provider before beginning treatment to confirm out-of-network mental health benefits.
